program seeks to mentor and support Somali-American families in their education and to promote equity and inclusion in the classroom.
Our Approach
Our tutoring WISDOM is based on personalized instruction, individual attention, and ongoing communication. Here at HIKMAH, we're flexible and focus on student success. We let kids be kids, and have some fun!
WE LOVE WHAT WE DO
Mentorship
The combination of cultural and linguistic diversity poses potential obstacles to the success of immigrant parents and students in district schools. This severely hinders the integration process and leads to a strong divide among communities. Hikmah has developed the Youth Enrichment Program (YEP) where students can come for tutoring help along with a structured Math and Reading curriculum.
Hikmah will also help parents of students to:
• Better navigate the public-school system, and understand how education quality affects their child.
• Participate in tutoring the children
• Assist and facilitate communications and exchange of information between parents and social agencies.
• Participates series training workshop to learn how to access and view online grade book
Community Resource
Hikmah seeks collaboration to foster solutions with other community- based organization and social services agencies in the community. These include:
• County social services
• Public school
• Law enforcement
• Adult education centers
• Health care provides
• Employment
• Legal aid
• Housing authority
• Other non-profit organizations.
Hikmah believes building strong working relationship with these organizations significantly benefits the mission of Hikmah.
Equity Broker
We know that a holistic approach to equity dramatically effects the outcome of students in their educational attainments and housing experience.
Hikmah works to develop an oportunity for disadvantage community members to stabilize their foundation with:
a. Education
b. Housing
c. Employment
Community Fostering!
Hikmah strives to bring the local community together by encouraging parents to attend with their child(ren). And offers resources to help parents with assimilation.
By accepting volunteers from community members, Hikmah fosters togetherness.
